I am an officer for the Lytton Police Department.

I have spent most of my life here.

I'm a good cop. One of the best, maybe.

I've had a good life. Today's the first time I have consider that - this life just might come to an end.

There's a storm of bullets. Why is it the "bad guys" never seem to run out of bullets but I am down to my last three?

My partner - Jim Gall - has been shot and is about ten feet away bleeding to death. I can't reach him because there's no cover between he and I. I have radioed for back up - but by the time they get here he will be dead if that bleeding isn't stopped.

My name is Sonny Bonds, and today is one of the worse days of my life.

This was supposed to be a normal sting.

We come in - Ken Lowe poses as a buyer. We sting Ceaser Gonzales and call it a day.

Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales is not only a drug lord - but a brutal murderer that isn't afraid to stain his hands with blood - which is how he earned his name. We have caught up with him time and time again - but he stays one step ahead somehow. We have found his other warehouses and found pictures of him standing next to bodies he had brutally killed and probably sent to others as warnings to those who didn't pay up.

Well somehow Ceaser knew Ken was a fake - and shot him in the chest. Then opened fire on the rest of us - knowing where we were positioned.

It smells of a dirty cop working for Ceaser.

And if that's the case - if I live through this - I am going to find out who it is and nail them to the wall.

Heh. I have no idea where I am going with this. I figure when the mood strikes me I will keep coming back here and adding more to it. It's just a way for me to keep challenging myself with writing something new. I normally do fantasy writing - so this will be a different experience for me. Just wanted to see how far I can take it before I throw my hands up in the air and give up. :)

The bullets kept coming.

I look again at my gun.

Still three bullets.

I look to my partner Jim Gall whose been shot and bleeding. He's looking back at me. His eyes are fading. He's dying. And quickly. He knows this is the end for him - and probably for me.

That's when he does the unthinkable.

He slides his gun across the floor to me.

I look over to him, "What are you doing?"

"I'm not going to make it," he stammered over the words, blood trickling from the corner of his lips. "You can't get to me. Take my gun. You have more bullets now. Nail that son of a bitch. Nail him to the wall. Make this worth it... make this..."

And with those last words, my partner for the last two years, is gone.

I take Jim's gun into my hands.

I look beneath the car I am taking cover behind. I can see one of the criminal's feet behind one of the shelves in the warehouse. I take good aim and I fire one shot from my gun.

The bullet impacts against the criminal's ankle. He screams and falls. He won't be a problem anymore. Placing the gun against the car's side mirror - I take aim and fire - it doesn't sever the mirror - but leaves it dangling. I break it off the rest of the way.

One more bullet in my gun. Six in Jim's.

I run for cover behind one of the barrels in the warehouse. Two shots ring off the metallic cylinder. I close my eyes and listen for the next shot. It bounces off the barrel again. Now I know where you are. I use the mirror to peek around the barrel - and I wait until I see the perp stick his head out again - and when he does - I stand and fire.

No more shots left in my gun, and the perp falls with a bullet to the chest.

Six more bullets in Jim's gun.

There's at least one more in this place. One more plus Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales himself.

I find Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales' last minion by the exit. This isn't good. If he's by the exit he's covering for Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales' escape. I have no time for cover or anything fancy.

He fires a few shots at me, and I just keep walking at him. I take aim - and fire. Another shot to the chest and he crumbles.

No time.

I run for the exit - but by the time I get there - it's already too late.

Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales had made a call and a helicopter had landed in the back parking lot. He was already in the air. I unloaded - knowing it would do no good - but prayed I would get a lucky shot and hit the gasoline tank.

It doesn't happen.

Once again Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales has gotten away - and this time taken the lives of two good cops with him.

I am going to find that bastard. And I am going to kill him. Even if he surrenders to me.

Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales will die.

I turn and look back at the carnage within the warehouse. So many lives wasted. I radio headquarters and let them know that Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales has escaped. "10-108, we have two officers down."

"10-4, what's the status on Ceaser Gonzales?" the shoulder CB crackled.

"Escaped via helicopter," I respond.

"What's the status on Jim and Ken?" the CB crackled.

"Dead," I say, flatly.

"10-4," the CB voice crackled back. It's Davis. He knew both Jim and Ken pretty well. We all did.

And someone is going to pay.

========================================
To (eventually) be continued when it strikes me to write something. :)

I've been to one before. Several, really.

It happens when you become a part of the Lytton Police Force. Not to say that Lytton is a bad place. Not at all, really. But sometimes, things go wrong - and life takes a tragic turn.

That's the case for both Ken Lowe, who was an undercover officer, who somehow had his cover blown - which resulted to a bullet that took his life at the hands of Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales.

But today's different. Today, we mourn two of our own. Jim Gall, my partner for several years - is also being buried today.

Ken Lowe was a young man, single, just celebrated his twenty third birthday just two weeks ago. Too young to be taken from this world. A tragic loss on so many levels.

My partner, Jim Gall was older. Married. His wife, Miranda Gall is next to me crying. Their daughter, Jasmine Gall, has no idea what's going on - she's too young to understand why daddy isn't coming home anymore.

Just like every partnership within the Lytton Police Department - these people aren't just your partner. It doesn't end when your shift is over. These are people who are there for you - have your back - and save your life. Your partner becomes an extension of your existing family. So when Jim died - I didn't just lose a partner.

I lost a brother.

I put my arm around Miranda and let her sob uncontrollably onto my chest as the do the twenty one gun salute fired into the air and begin to lower both Jim and Ken down into their graves.

I am still under the impression that one of our own is responsible and on Ceaser "Blood" Gonzales' pay.

He or she may even be here now.

Feigning their mourning.

They will pay.

Even if it costs me my badge in the end.

Someone is responsible for the death of my partner - my brother - and I will take them down.

Hard.
